Background
The Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS) is the UK’s compensation fund of last resort for customers of firms authorised by the Financial Services Authority (FSA).

FSCS’s Annual Report and Accounts and Class Statements are companion documents with a related look and feel.
With a new Chief Executive in place, and facing disquiet from the financial industry over the Levy, for the 2019-20 Annual Report, FSCS wanted to signify a change by reducing the page count and producing a leaner, more cost-effective document that nevertheless fulfilled its statutory obligations.
Solution
Balancing the need to retain an accessible type size with the stated aim of reducing page count, designer and editor worked closely together to develop a compact and purposeful design, supported by key statistics and bold graphics that emphasise FSCS's cost savings.
Reportage photography from FSCS's archive is used to highlight section starts and break up the narrative.
